Groby West & Ratby

Groby West and Ratby form a residential area on the northwestern outskirts of Leicester, within the borough of Hinckley and Bosworth. The landscape is characterised by the remnants of old granite quarries, with Groby Pool, a large former quarry now a nature reserve, serving as a central feature. Housing is primarily a mix of post-war estates and older village properties, providing homes for commuters to the city and surrounding industrial areas. The area maintains several local shops and schools, supporting day-to-day community needs.

The historical granite industry has left a distinct mark, with stone from here used in many local buildings. Ratby retains a more pronounced village centre along Main Street, with its own parish church and community facilities. The area is bordered by open farmland and the route of the Leicester to Burton upon Trent railway line, which once served the quarries.
