Hampton, West End & Swalecliffe

This area sits north of Canterbury city and covers the coastal corridor around Hampton, the West End neighbourhood and Swalecliffe. Housing is a mix of terraces, interwar villas and later estates clustered around small shopping parades and a handful of pubs. Local facilities include primary schools, a GP surgery, community halls, sports pitches and allotments. Regular buses and stopping rail services link the neighbourhoods with Canterbury and nearby seaside towns, and small greens and play areas give streets direct access to local paths and cycle routes.

The shoreline at Swalecliffe is a shingle beach backed by a concrete sea wall with wooden groynes at regular intervals; low tide reveals rock pools and stretches of flint-strewn foreshore used by anglers and families. Swalecliffe railway station sits close to the seafront and provides short journeys into Canterbury West and across the coast. A small stream runs to the sea near the slopes, and footpaths from residential streets lead down to the promenade and coastal walk that continues east and west along the Kent shore.
