Hardwicke

Hardwicke ward lies in the southernmost part of Stroud District, bordering the city of Gloucester. The area is largely defined by the M5 motorway, which runs along its western edge, and the A38 road that cuts through it. The landscape is primarily a mix of flat, open farmland and several small, distinct residential settlements, including the villages of Hardwicke itself and Quedgeley. The built environment consists mainly of modern housing estates and associated local amenities, reflecting significant residential development in recent decades.

The ward includes the large, linear village of Quedgeley, which functions as a key residential and service hub with its own large supermarket and community facilities. A notable local feature is the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal, which forms part of the eastern boundary, offering a route for leisure walking and cycling. The area's character is shaped by its position between a major city and the more rural Cotswold valleys, creating a transitional, commuter-oriented environment with pockets of older village centres amidst newer development.
