Healey, Syke & Shawclough

Healey, Syke & Shawclough is an electoral ward in the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale, Greater Manchester, lying to the east of the town centre. The area combines residential streets, pockets of local authority housing and small retail parades, with primary schools and community centres serving neighbourhood needs. Bus routes link the ward to Rochdale town centre and nearby suburbs, and local playing fields and allotments provide outdoor space for residents. The ward borders the River Spodden valley and includes Healey Dell Nature Reserve, where a 19th-century stone railway viaduct carries a former line across the river and riverside paths follow the valley floor. Shawclough occupies higher ground above the dell, with streets that slope down toward the valley, while Syke sits between those residential areas and the town. Community groups and conservation volunteers are active in maintaining green spaces and footpaths, and local shops and halls continue to serve a mostly residential population.
