Hednesford Pye Green

Hednesford's Pye Green area sits on the northern edge of Cannock Chase in Staffordshire and includes Pye Green Common and the ridge above Hednesford. Tracks and public rights of way cross a mix of heath, birch woodland and managed plantations, reflecting both natural ground and reclaimed former coal workings. On the ridge the Pye Green transmitting mast marks the skyline; the concrete tower and associated buildings are used for radio and telecommunications and are a familiar local landmark.

The area is used year-round for walking, cycling and horse riding, with a network of bridleways linking into the Chase. Habitat patches support heather, gorse and bracken, and seasonal changes are part of local land management carried out by the forestry and conservation teams.
