Hest Bank & Bolton-le-Sands

Hest Bank and Bolton-le-Sands sit on the eastern shore of Morecambe Bay in the City of Lancaster district. Hest Bank occupies the coastal strip where a low seawall runs along broad sandflats and saltmarsh that are exposed at low tide; wading birds are regularly visible on the mudflats. The West Coast Main Line carries trains close to the shore and the remains of the old Hest Bank station stand beside the track. A6 traffic and local lanes thread the settlements, and small clusters of housing and caravan sites back onto the coastal plain.

Bolton-le-Sands stretches along the A6 a short distance inland from the bay and retains a clear village core with a parish church of medieval origin and a mix of shops, pubs and services serving local residents. The Lancaster Canal corridor lies nearby and its towpath is used for short walks. Local clubs and community groups use village halls and playing fields through the year, and the combination of coastal edge and inland lanes gives the area a mix of working shoreline and everyday village life.
