Horwich South & Blackrod

Horwich South & Blackrod covers the southern residential areas of Horwich town and the separate settlement of Blackrod to the west. The landscape is characterised by suburban housing estates and local high streets serving daily needs, with the open greenspace of Lever Park providing a rural boundary. The area is dominated by the prominent landmark of Rivington Pike, a hill topped with a historic beacon tower visible for miles.

The ward includes the site of the former Horwich Loco Works, a major railway engineering hub whose closure reshaped the local economy. This industrial heritage contrasts with the residential streets and the agricultural land surrounding Blackrod. The West Pennine Moors fringe the area, offering walking routes directly from the urban edge into open countryside.
