Huthwaite

Huthwaite is a village in the Ashfield district of Nottinghamshire, located on the Nottinghamshire coalfield. It grew as a mining settlement from the late 19th century, and that industrial past shapes the street pattern and some remaining buildings. The area has local shops, primary schools, churches and a community centre that host regular events. Sports clubs, including football and cricket teams, are part of local life and play on ground-level pitches close to the main residential areas.

After pit closures much of the former mining land was reshaped and planted, leaving a mix of pocket parks and networked footpaths that link housing areas to local services. Bus routes connect Huthwaite to neighbouring towns for wider services and employment. Housing ranges from older terraces to post-war estates, and community groups focus on maintaining green space and local facilities. The village retains traces of its mining era in place names and reclaimed sites used for recreation and allotments.
