About

Ingatestone & Mountnessing is a civil parish in the Borough of Brentwood, Essex, centred on the larger village of Ingatestone and the smaller settlement of Mountnessing. Ingatestone sits along the A12 and is served by Ingatestone railway station on the Great Eastern Main Line, with regular services to London Liverpool Street. The village core includes Ingatestone Hall, a 16th-century Tudor manor long associated with the Petre family; the building retains a long gallery and original brickwork and sits close to the parish church.

Mountnessing lies a short distance east of Ingatestone and is mostly rural, with arable fields, hedgerows and a network of lanes and rights of way that link into the parish. Local life revolves around small community facilities, parish events and countryside pursuits such as walking and riding. The pattern of farms and lanes gives a sense of continuity with the agricultural past while the road and rail connections make the area commutable to larger towns and London.
