Kellet & Lune Valley

The Kellet and Lune Valley area encompasses a mix of elevated limestone farmland and the broad river corridor. The villages of Nether and Over Kellet sit on the rising ground east of the city, characterised by stone-built properties and agricultural land. To the south, the landscape is defined by the River Lune as it flows towards Lancaster, with flat flood meadows and riverside paths creating a distinct, open environment.

This area is shaped by historical industry and transport routes. Remnants of quarrying in the Kellet villages speak to its industrial past, while the Lune Valley's course is followed by major railway lines and the M6 motorway. The Lune Aqueduct, carrying the Lancaster Canal high above the river, is a notable feat of Georgian engineering that quietly dominates the valley scene.
