Kendal Town & Greenside

Kendal Town centres on the historic Highgate and Stricklandgate, its narrow yards and passages hinting at its medieval wool trade past. The area is defined by the River Kent, which flows through its heart, with stone bridges and weirs marking its course. The town's layout remains compact, with independent shops and traditional inns lining the main thoroughfares, all overlooked by the ruins of Kendal Castle on the hill.

The Greenside area lies directly to the north, a primarily residential neighbourhood characterised by Victorian and Edwardian terraced housing climbing the valley slopes. Its streets offer direct access to Serpentine Woods, a local woodland following the river bend. This creates a distinct transition from the commercial core to quieter, green-lined streets, with paths leading to the town's parks and the surrounding fells.
