Kingmoor, Houghton & Whiteclosegate

Kingmoor sits on the northern edge of Carlisle and is a mix of business land and rail infrastructure. Kingmoor Park occupies ground that was once military and railway depot; the long sidings of the Kingmoor marshalling yard remain visible beside the West Coast Main Line. Light industrial units and offices cluster around the park, while the railway corridors and service roads shape the pattern of streets there. The area is part of the outlying fabric of Carlisle rather than a separate village, with development oriented toward employment sites and transport links.

Houghton and Whiteclosegate form adjoining residential districts to the south and east of Kingmoor, with a mix of council and private housing, primary schools, shops and community centres serving local needs. Bus services link the neighbourhoods into Carlisle city centre and the M6 is a short drive, making commuter journeys straightforward. On the northern margins fields and farm tracks give way to the business park and raillands, so the change from housing to industrial land is often abrupt and clearly marked.
