About

Kirby-le-Soken is a coastal village on the Tendring peninsula, centred around its historic church and village green. The area includes the hamlet of Beaumont-cum-Moze and extensive agricultural land. It borders the Hamford Water National Nature Reserve, a large area of tidal creeks, saltmarsh and mudflats important for overwintering birds. The landscape is predominantly flat and open, characterised by farmland and coastal habitats.

The Hamford ward encompasses the waters and islands of the Hamford Water estuary itself, including the inhabited Skipper's Island and the protected Pewit Island. This secluded maritime environment is accessible only by boat and is known for its colony of common seals. The ward's sparse population is concentrated in the small settlements of Kirby-le-Soken and Little Oakley, with the wider area defined by its quiet, marshy coastline and conservation status.
