Little Stour & Ashstone

The Little Stour & Ashstone ward is a predominantly rural area on the western outskirts of Dover. It encompasses several small villages and hamlets, including Ashstone, Westcliffe, and parts of River. The landscape is characterised by agricultural land, woodland, and the valleys of the Little Stour and Dour rivers. Residential development is largely confined to these historic settlements, with housing consisting of older cottages and more modern family homes scattered throughout the countryside.

The area is defined by its connection to the surrounding chalk downland and its quiet, village-based community life. Local infrastructure centres around village halls, churches, and a few local pubs serving the parishes. A notable local feature is the presence of several historic watermills along the river courses, some of which have been converted into private residences, reflecting the area's past reliance on water power.
