Llanelly

Llanelly ward lies in the northern reaches of Monmouthshire, forming part of the county's border with Powys. The area is defined by its rural and upland character, situated within the western fringes of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The landscape is dominated by steep, wooded valleys and open moorland, with scattered farms and small settlements. The geography is shaped by the River Clydach and its tributaries, which cut through the terrain.

The community is centred around the village of Gilwern, with its historic canal basin on the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. The remains of old limestone quarries and tramways speak to its industrial past, while the surrounding hills offer extensive walking trails into the high ground of Mynydd Llangatwg.
