London Bridge & Bermondsey West

The area around London Bridge sits on the south bank of the Thames and is centred on the bridge and the mainline station. London Bridge station is a busy rail and Underground interchange serving Northern and Jubilee lines and a range of southeast services. Borough Market occupies long-standing market halls near the station and has traded on and around this site for centuries. Riverside sites include More London and Hay’s Galleria, with a riverside walkway that runs alongside office blocks and the riverside amphitheatre known as the Scoop. The Shard towers above the station and is visible from many streets in the neighbourhood.

Bermondsey West lies immediately to the east and is threaded by Bermondsey Street and Ropewalk, where small shops, galleries and pubs sit beneath railway arches. Maltby Street Market runs under a long stretch of arches on Ropewalk and brings traders and food stalls into the railway corridor at weekends. Bermondsey’s street pattern reflects its industrial past — former tanneries and wharves gave way to mixed commercial and residential use while a Jubilee line station at Bermondsey connects the ward to central London.
