Loughview ward covers the southern coastal edge of the Ards Peninsula, directly facing the expanse of Strangford Lough. The area is characterised by a mix of residential housing and agricultural land, with a shoreline that is largely undeveloped. The main settlement is the village of Ballywalter, which serves as a focal point with its local services and historic church. The physical geography is low-lying, with the land gently meeting the lough's tidal flats and inlets.
The ward's identity is strongly linked to the lough, with several small harbours and slipways used by local fishermen and recreational boaters. The long, straight coastal road provides uninterrupted views across the water to the County Down mainland. Ballywalter Park, a grand 19th-century estate with notable gardens, stands within the ward's boundaries, adding a distinct historical layer to the predominantly rural landscape.
