About

Mile Cross is a residential ward situated directly northwest of Norwich city centre, separated by the River Wensum and the inner ring road. The area is characterised by interwar and post-war council housing, with a grid-like street pattern of terraced and semi-detached homes. It contains several local shops, takeaways, and public houses along its main thoroughfares, serving the immediate community. The ward is bordered by large areas of open space, including Mousehold Heath to the east.

A dominant feature is the Mile Cross Lane substation, a significant electrical infrastructure site with its large pylons and transformers. The community is served by several primary schools and the large Sewell Park College academy. While predominantly housing, the ward includes light industrial units near the boundary with the A140. The medieval Bishops Bridge, one of the oldest bridges in the city, marks its southeastern edge near the river.
