Northern Moor

Northern Moor sits in the southern part of the City of Manchester as part of the wider Wythenshawe area. It is primarily a residential suburb that grew during the 20th century under the same garden suburb planning that shaped much of Wythenshawe. Many terraces and semi‑detached houses date from the interwar period and show features common to that era, such as bow‑fronted bays and pebble‑dash facades. The name recalls the patchwork of moor and farmland that once lay north of Wythenshawe before suburban development extended across the area.

Local life centres on small shopping parades, schools and community centres that serve nearby streets. Pockets of green space and sports pitches are scattered through the neighbourhood, and allotment sites sit close to its northern edge. Regular bus services link residents with other parts of south Manchester. The pattern of housing, the interwar street layout and the presence of long, narrow green strips make Northern Moor recognisable within Wythenshawe without relying on larger, neighbouring landmarks.
