About

Oadby and Wigston is a borough in Leicestershire, in the East Midlands, immediately southeast of the city of Leicester. The district covers the towns of Oadby, Wigston Magna and South Wigston and is the smallest local government district in the county by area. It is mainly suburban, with streets and housing that developed as Leicester expanded in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Local shopping centres and civic buildings sit close to each other, making services accessible without long journeys.

Transport links include South Wigston railway station and road connections into Leicester, which shape commuting patterns. Oadby contains Leicester Racecourse, which occupies open ground at the edge of the town and hosts regular race meetings. The borough also has pockets of planned green space, community centres and a mixture of housing types from terraces to postwar estates. Local councils and community groups run markets, sports clubs and festivals that reflect the towns rather than rural countryside.
