Oakengates & Ketley

Oakengates sits at the eastern edge of Telford and Wrekin and functions as a local centre for shops, a regular market and everyday services. The town is served by Oakengates railway station on the Shrewsbury–Wolverhampton line, providing direct rail links to surrounding towns. The High Street and adjacent streets contain civic buildings, small retail units and community venues used for events and meetings, alongside schools and healthcare facilities that serve nearby neighbourhoods.

Ketley lies immediately north of Oakengates and grew around ironworking and coal mining in the 18th and 19th centuries; remnants of that past can be seen in earthworks and old industrial layouts scattered through the area. Today Ketley is mainly residential, with local community centres, parks and playing fields and pockets of light industry on the estate fringes. The two places are linked by local roads and footpaths, and both form part of the broader Telford urban area while retaining separate local identities.
