Penrith Outer

Penrith Outer sits on the fringes of Penrith, occupying farmland and small hamlets that run into the Eden Valley. The ground shows glacial landforms — low drumlins and moraines — with fields divided by drystone walls and hedgerows. Farms are mixed pasture and arable, and lanes thread between stone-built farmsteads. Key transport lines meet here: the M6 at junction 40 and the A66 provide road links, while the West Coast Main Line serves Penrith North Lakes station close to the town edge. Services in the town are a short drive away, making the area a working rural belt rather than a separate settlement.

Parish halls and village greens host local events and the farm pattern still reflects medieval enclosures in places.
