About

The Quoile ward encompasses a mix of residential and industrial zones on the northern outskirts of Newry. Its landscape is defined by the Quoile River and its tidal estuary, which flows into the larger Carlingford Lough. This area includes the Quoile Pondage Nature Reserve, a significant wetland habitat created by a tidal barrier. The land use is primarily functional, with housing developments situated alongside distribution and logistics centres that serve the city and wider region.

The ward's character is heavily influenced by its position along key transport corridors, including the A1 and A28 roads. The historic Narrow Water Castle, a 16th-century tower house, stands on the southern banks of the estuary, overlooking the water. Much of the area's boundary is formed by the Newry River and Ship Canal, marking a clear separation from the city's central urban core. The environment here transitions from managed waterways to reclaimed land supporting commercial activity.
