Romsey Abbey

Romsey Abbey ward encompasses the historic core of Romsey town, centred around the prominent medieval abbey from which it takes its name. The area is characterised by a network of narrow streets and lanes lined with buildings spanning several centuries, from timber-framed structures to Georgian townhouses. The River Test flows through the ward, with its clear chalk stream waters defining the local landscape.

The Abbey Church of St Mary and St Ethelflaeda dominates the area, with its Norman architecture and extensive grounds. The local economy is mixed, with independent shops, cafes, and services concentrated along the main thoroughfares. A notable feature is the Abbey's unusual and well-preserved 14th-century mortuary chests, resting within the church.
