Ryde West & Havenstreet

Ryde West sits along the north-eastern shore of the Isle of Wight, centred on the seafront and Esplanade. The shoreline here has a broad foreshore that is exposed at low tide and a long promenade used for walking and local events. Housing and small commercial streets back onto the seafront, with regular bus services linking this side of Ryde to the town centre and inland villages. Day-to-day life is anchored by shops, cafés and public spaces that meet the sea-facing promenades rather than by tourist-only facilities.

A few miles inland, Havenstreet is a village on rural lanes close to Arreton. The village is the operational base for the Isle of Wight Steam Railway: Havenstreet station contains the railway’s museum, workshops and collections of preserved steam locomotives and carriages, and it is the starting point for heritage trains that run on the restored line. The presence of working restoration sheds and a timetable of steam services gives Havenstreet a practical, hands-on railway character that shapes local events and visitor activity.
