Seasalter

Seasalter sits on the north Kent coast within the City of Canterbury district, where a long stretch of shingle and sand meets salt marsh and grazing marsh known as the Seasalter Levels. The shoreline includes mudflats that become exposed at low tide and a concrete slipway used for launching small boats. A coastal footpath follows the edge of the marshes and the sea wall, offering direct access to the foreshore and a line of wooden groynes that run out into the shallows. Fields and pasture rise gently behind the marsh, meeting lanes and a small cluster of homes and yards.

The area is used for small-scale coastal activities and practical shore work rather than formal visitor attractions: you will see shore-based shellfish gathering, dinghies, and a modest sailing presence. Waders and wintering wildfowl regularly feed on the mudflats, and the marsh channels hold eelgrass and other salt-tolerant plants. Settlement here is low-rise and positioned to avoid the marsh, with lanes that reflect historic drainage patterns and sea-defence lines that remain visible on the foreshore.
