Shanklin West & Newchurch

Shanklin West sits on the island’s east coast and includes the seafront and part of the town behind it. The seafront is lined by an esplanade and faces a stretch of sandy beach. The Old Village, with its thatched cottages and independent shops, lies a short walk inland from the promenade. Rail access ends here: Shanklin station marks the eastern terminus of the Island Line, which connects the town to Ryde and the rest of the island rail network. The area mixes residential streets with seasonal visitor facilities and short coastal walks.

Newchurch lies immediately north of Shanklin and is set among farmland and chalk downland. The village is centred on a green and a parish church, and it links into a network of public footpaths and bridleways used by walkers and riders. Local roads and lanes connect Newchurch to neighbouring parishes, and small community facilities and pubs serve residents. The pattern of fields, hedgerows and lanes gives the area a rural character while remaining within easy reach of Shanklin’s services.
