About

Shoeburyness is the easternmost ward of Southend-on-Sea, characterised by its coastal position at the mouth of the Thames Estuary. The area contains a mix of residential housing, ranging from Victorian terraces to modern estates, alongside local shopping parades catering to daily needs. Its coastline features both sandy beaches and areas of mudflat, with a long seawall promenade popular for walking. The ward includes the large public open space of Shoebury Common, which fronts the beach and contains recreational facilities.

A significant historical feature is the former Shoeburyness Artillery Range, with its extensive red-brick barracks and proofing butts now repurposed for housing and leisure. The area retains a working waterfront at the MOD-owned Pig's Bay basin. Transport links are provided by the terminus of the London, Tilbury and Southend railway line, connecting the ward directly to central London. The overall atmosphere is more residential and less densely built than central Southend, with a focus on its maritime edge and open green spaces.
