About

Silverstone sits in the central belt of West Northamptonshire and is best known for the motor circuit laid out on the runways of the former RAF Silverstone airfield. The track retains lengths of the original perimeter roads and focal points such as the National Pit Straight and the Copse-Maggotts sequence, which shape the pattern of events and traffic through the village. Surrounding farmland and hedgerows frame the circuit, and small clusters of housing and farm buildings lie close to the track perimeter.

Syresham and Helmdon lie to the south and south-west, linked by lanes, footpaths and bridleways that cross ridge-and-furrow fields and pockets of ancient woodland. Syresham has a compact village core with a village green and scattered farmsteads; Helmdon is noted for its stone-built houses and the brick-and-stone viaduct that carried the former Great Central Railway across its valley. Local lanes connect both villages to the parish churches, village halls and small quarries, and the network of public rights of way makes the area straightforward to explore on foot or by bike.
