Skipton Town & East

Skipton Town & East encompasses the historic core and surrounding residential districts of this North Yorkshire market town. The area is defined by its position along the course of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, which runs directly through its centre. This central area is dominated by the well-preserved medieval Skipton Castle and the adjacent High Street, which hosts a traditional outdoor market several days a week. The architecture reflects centuries of development, from stone-built terraces to Victorian civic buildings.

The eastern sections are primarily residential, characterised by neighbourhoods of local stone housing that extend towards the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. A notable network of pathways follows the canal towpath and the Springs Branch, a short canal arm leading to the former limestone quarry now known as Skipton Woods. This creates a distinct green corridor for walking directly from the town centre into wooded countryside, blending urban and rural elements.
