About

Yorkshire and The Humber covers a broad area of northern England including the counties of North, West and South Yorkshire, the East Riding and the unitary authorities around Kingston upon Hull, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire. The region runs from the North Sea coast and the Humber estuary across low-lying Holderness and the Humber ports to upland country in the west. Major urban centres include Leeds, Sheffield, Bradford, York and Hull, with transport links that serve manufacturing, logistics and service sectors. The Humber and the port complex at Immingham and Hull remain key to maritime trade and bulk handling in the region.

The landscape mixes moorland, limestone dales, rolling Wolds and a coastline shaped by sediment and tides. In the Yorkshire Dales the Ribblehead Viaduct carries a railway across a deep valley, and on the coast Spurn Point bends into the mouth of the Humber as a narrow sandy spit. Agriculture, engineering and cultural heritage in towns and cities coexist with extensive public rights of way across moor and dale.
