About

South Cambridgeshire is a local government district in Cambridgeshire, in the East of England, surrounding the city of Cambridge to the south and west. The district includes a mix of agricultural land, villages and new towns, with Cambourne the largest settlement and the location of the district council. Villages such as Histon, Sawston, Linton and Melbourn retain village centres and parish churches. Transport routes include the A10, A505 and rail lines that link smaller stations — including those at Shelford, Foxton and Whittlesford Parkway — to Cambridge.

Landscape features include the Gog Magog Hills and the fen edge to the south and east; the River Cam and its tributaries run through the district. Duxford airfield and the Imperial War Museum Duxford sit within the district, reflecting aviation history alongside working farmland. The area also forms part of the catchment for Cambridge’s research and technology cluster, so many villages function as commuter communities while retaining separate parish governance and Neighbourhood Plans.
