Southtown and Cobholm

Southtown and Cobholm form a distinct ward on the western side of the River Yare, connected to Great Yarmouth's town centre by bridges. The area is primarily residential, characterised by Victorian and Edwardian terraced housing alongside more modern developments. Its streets are arranged on a grid pattern, with local shops and services concentrated along the main roads. The riverfront provides views across to the port and industrial areas, defining its geographic separation.

The area is known for its close-knit community atmosphere and several local parks providing green space. Historically linked to the fishing and maritime industries, it retains a practical, working character. A notable local landmark is the distinctive Cobholm Mill, a former drainage windpump that stands as a reminder of the area's relationship with the low-lying marshland upon which it was built. Regular bus services connect the ward to the wider borough.
