Sutton and Mount Gould

Sutton and Mount Gould is a residential ward situated directly north of Plymouth city centre, with its southern boundary formed by the A374 road. The area is characterised by a mix of housing, primarily interwar and post-war terraced homes and semis, alongside modern apartment developments. Its streets are arranged on a gentle slope, offering views towards the River Plym and the city beyond. The ward functions as a practical residential zone with local shops and services concentrated along main routes like Beaumont Road.

The area is anchored by the large Mount Gould Hospital site, a key local employer and healthcare facility. Central Park lies just beyond its western edge, providing extensive green space. A defining characteristic is the presence of the Plymouth Synagogue on Catherine Street, a Grade II* listed building and the oldest Ashkenazi synagogue in continuous use in the English-speaking world. The ward is well-connected by bus routes into the city centre and towards other suburbs like Mutley and Peverell.
