Temple Hill & Marshes

Temple Hill sits on higher ground just to the east of Dartford town centre. The area is mainly residential, with streets that slope down toward the centre and short local routes linking housing, a handful of shops and community facilities. From parts of Temple Hill there are direct pedestrian routes onto the open ground below, so the hill functions as a local transition between built-up streets and the low-lying land that follows.

The marshes are the low-lying floodplain of the River Darent as it approaches the Thames, made up of grassland, reedbeds and a network of drainage channels. The area includes Dartford Creek, a tidal channel that cuts into the marsh and influences local water levels. The marshes are used for walking, informal sport and seasonal birdwatching, and they act as part of the town’s floodplain and green corridor along the river.
