About

The Maidens ward encompasses the coastal stretch from Ballygalley village south to the town of Larne. This area is characterised by its proximity to the Irish Sea, with a landscape dominated by farmland and small settlements. The ward includes the notable headland of Ballygally Head and the nearby tidal islands known as the Maidens, which give the ward its name. These geological features are a defining aspect of the local coastline.

The local economy has traditional connections to agriculture and the sea. Larne Harbour, a major passenger and freight port, is a significant feature within the southern part of the ward. Inland, the terrain consists of rolling fields and low hills. The area is connected by the Antrim Coast Road, which follows the shoreline and provides views across the water to the Mull of Kintyre in Scotland on clear days.
