Town Centre, Overdale & Dawley Bank

Telford Town Centre is the commercial heart of the borough. The indoor shopping centre sits beside the Southwater complex, where a man-made lake forms a performance area used for seasonal events and water displays. Southwater Square and the civic quarter contain the library, customer services and public spaces, while the Telford International Centre hosts conferences and exhibitions. Rail and bus links meet at Telford Central station and the adjacent bus interchange, providing direct services across the region and onward connections to larger rail hubs.

Overdale and Dawley Bank lie to the east of the town centre and are mainly residential neighbourhoods with a mix of post-war housing and older terraces that reflect the area’s industrial origins. Local primary schools, community centres and small parades of shops meet everyday needs; allotments and playing fields provide outdoor space. Streets rise from the retail core toward higher ground, creating short pedestrian routes into the town park and civic facilities and keeping most services within a walkable distance of the town centre.
