Twerton ward lies in the western part of the city of Bath. The area is primarily residential, characterised by terraced housing built from the local Bath stone. It is bordered by the River Avon to the north and the main railway line to Bristol. The ward includes the former Twerton High Street, which serves as a local shopping area for everyday needs. The topography slopes upwards from the river, with housing estates extending towards the southern boundary.

The area has a significant industrial history, notably as the site of the Stothert & Pitt crane manufacturing works. A large modern retail park now occupies part of this former industrial land near the river. The ward contains several schools and community facilities, including a library and recreation grounds. Twerton is connected to central Bath by several main bus routes along the Lower Bristol Road, which runs through the area.
