Weymouth town and Melcombe Regis sit around a broad harbour mouth and a long sandy esplanade. The quayside still serves working boats alongside pleasure craft, and a sweep of Georgian terraces lines part of the waterfront. Streets behind the seafront contain shops, pubs and narrow alleys that lead down to the harbour walls and slipways. The esplanade and harbour form the daily focus for fishing landings, boat movements and waterside cafés, and the Pavilion and quay areas act as local hubs for events and markets.

Rodwell lies immediately north of the harbour and is crossed by the Rodwell Trail, which follows the former Weymouth and Portland Railway trackbed. You can see original stone culverts and short stretches of platform edge where the line once ran close to the shore, and the trail gives regular views back over the harbour and the bay. Housing in Rodwell steps up from the coastline and fields and the area retains small pockets of industrial waterfront buildings linked to the port’s working history.
