About

Whitehaven Harbour sits on the west Cumbrian coast with a network of quays and basins that grew up in the 17th and 18th centuries to serve the town’s coal trade. The town centre is arranged around the harbour in a planned street layout that dates from that period, so roads run outwards from the waterfront rather than following a later, organic pattern.
