About

Widcombe sits just across the river from Bath city centre, between the River Avon and the Kennet and Avon Canal. The area is made up of narrow streets, small shops and a parish church, and riverside paths that link to the city towpath. Beside the river are the Cleveland Pools, the early 19th-century lido that has been restored and sits discreetly near the water’s edge, and the canal towpath runs past bridges and small wharves used historically for goods into the city.

Bathwick Hill rises from the city and climbs toward Claverton Down, carrying local traffic and foot routes between the two areas. At the top, Claverton Down hosts the University of Bath campus, its sports training village, research buildings and student accommodation, with playing fields and paths that look back across the city. Open downland and public footpaths radiate from the campus, linking the hilltop to neighbouring green spaces and providing routes used by residents and students alike.
