About

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead lies west of London in South East England, comprising towns including Windsor, Maidenhead, Eton and Ascot plus a string of villages along the River Thames. The Thames runs through the borough, crossing Maidenhead and forming north-eastern stretches around Windsor; the borough includes stretches of towpath used by the Thames Path. Maidenhead railway station sits on the Great Western Main Line with regular services to London Paddington and Reading, and local roads link the towns to the M4 corridor.

The borough centrepieces are Windsor town and Windsor Castle, set beside the castle's deer park and Windsor Great Park. A straight tree-lined avenue known as the Long Walk runs from the castle toward the Copper Horse statue on Snow Hill. Ascot Racecourse lies to the south-east of Windsor and stages the Royal Ascot meeting; nearer Maidenhead, Bray is home to internationally known restaurants including The Fat Duck. River boating, towpath walking and village high streets give the area a mix of civic, recreational and rural land uses.
