About

Winscombe, Langford and Blagdon sit on the southern flank of the Mendip Hills in North Somerset, linked by narrow lanes, farmland and parish routes. Winscombe has a compact centre with shops, a weekly market and a village hall; Langford lies a short distance to the south on lower slopes; Blagdon is set beside the reservoir that takes its name. The former Cheddar Valley railway ran through Winscombe; its trackbed is now the Strawberry Line trail, used by walkers and cyclists and crossing the village on a direct east–west route that still influences road patterns and footpaths.

Blagdon Lake, managed by Bristol Water, is a working reservoir with public access along parts of the shore and views over open water, and it supplies water to the wider Bristol area. Farming and smallholdings surround the three settlements, with occasional stone-built houses, parish churches and village pubs serving local life. Community groups, primary schools and amateur clubs provide most social amenities, and the Mendip escarpment rises close by for hill walking and quarry remains.
