Yaxley & Farcet

Yaxley and Farcet are neighbouring villages in the Huntingdonshire district of Cambridgeshire, immediately to the south and east of the Peterborough urban area. Settlement combines suburban housing at the city edge with older village cores. Local services include shops, primary schools, parish churches and sports clubs; Yaxley Football Club plays at Leading Drove and draws teams from the surrounding parishes. The two communities are separate civil parishes linked by minor roads, residential streets and a network of public footpaths that cross arable land and small greens.

The area sits on the margin of the Nene Valley, where the channel and floodplain meet drained fen and mixed farmland. Flood banks, drainage ditches and straight field boundaries mark land use and influence walking routes along riverside stretches. Housing is generally clustered on slightly higher ground, while small trading estates near the Peterborough boundary provide local employment. Rights of way and village recreation grounds give regular access to the riverside and open farmland that frame everyday life in the parishes.
