About

Adlington & Rivington sit within Chorley borough, combining a village centre with upland moor and managed parkland. Adlington village is served by a railway station on the line between Manchester and Preston and is home to Adlington Hall, a historic family seat now used for events and community functions. Local lanes and footpaths link farms, greens and the small parade of shops that form the village core, giving practical access to everyday services and public transport without leaving the parish.

Rivington rises from the village onto the edge of the West Pennine Moors and is known for its man-made reservoirs and hill top features. The chain of Rivington reservoirs dates to the 19th century and sits beside a network of rights-of-way. On Rivington Pike a stone tower marks the skyline and nearby terraced gardens and follies were laid out by William Lever; stone steps, ponds and the hexagonal Pigeon Tower remain on paths used by walkers.
