Ashtead West

Ashtead West sits within the Mole Valley borough of Surrey and covers the western side of the village of Ashtead. The area is centred on the village high street and the railway station, which provides regular commuter services into London and local towns. Streets off the main thoroughfare contain a mix of housing, small shops, cafés and community facilities, including primary schools and a village hall that hosts clubs and events. The pattern of short residential roads and green verges reflects development from the late 19th and 20th centuries around the older village core.

Open land lies close by, with Ashtead Common managed by the City of London Corporation forming a significant local resource. A network of sandy rides, ponds and wood pasture runs across the common; many of the oak trees there show pollarding scars from historic coppicing, and the rides are used by walkers and birdwatchers. Community allotments and small playing fields sit within the ward, while local groups organise conservation work and seasonal activities that keep green spaces accessible to residents.
