Aughnacloy

Aughnacloy ward encompasses a primarily rural landscape of small farms and low, rolling drumlins in the south of Mid Ulster. The settlement of Aughnacloy itself, situated on the River Blackwater, functions as a local service centre along the main A5 corridor. The economy is historically linked to agriculture and the area's location as a crossing point on the border with County Monaghan.

The surrounding townlands contain dispersed dwellings and larger agricultural holdings. The ward's boundary is notably defined by the presence of the now-dry Ulster Canal, which runs to the east of the main settlement. This linear feature, along with the river and the A5 road, shapes the area's physical character and connectivity within the wider region.
