Aylestone South

Aylestone South is a residential area in southwest Leicester, primarily consisting of suburban housing. The neighbourhood is characterised by a mix of interwar semis, detached homes, and more recent developments. Its streets are quiet, with local amenities centred along Saffron Lane and Gleneagles Avenue. The area is bordered by the larger Saffron Lane recreation ground, providing open space for sports and leisure. The Grand Union Canal forms a green, linear boundary to the south, offering a route for walkers and cyclists away from the main roads.

The community is served by several local schools and shops, with easy road access to Leicester city centre and the outer ring road. The area retains a distinct identity, separate from the neighbouring Aylestone village to the north. A notable local landmark is the former Great Central Railway line, now a walking route, which cuts through the area. This path, along with the canal towpath, forms a key part of the local green infrastructure, connecting residents to wider networks without needing to travel by car.
