About

The cluster of Bar Hill, Girton and Grantchester lies to the north and west of Cambridge in South Cambridgeshire. Bar Hill sits beside the A14 and developed as a planned village with a retail centre and a business park serving the local commuter belt. Girton is directly northwest of Cambridge and is home to Girton College; the college campus occupies a site on the village edge and the village contains a parish church and a mix of residential streets, allotments and farmland. Local lanes link the three settlements and several public footpaths run over the chalk and clay soils that define the area.

Grantchester lies along the River Cam and retains a village green, a parish church and the Orchard Tea Garden beside the river, a riverside tea spot associated with early 20th-century Cambridge poets. Riverside meadows and willow-lined banks provide walking routes into the city or out into fields and woodlands. Public transport and cycle routes connect the villages to Cambridge, while local primary schools, village halls and community clubs serve residents across the three settlements.
