Becontree Heath

Becontree Heath sits within the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham as part of the wider Becontree Estate laid out in the interwar years. The area occupies higher ground that was once open heath, and that history is reflected in the name and in the pattern of streets and green strips that run through the neighbourhood. Housing here largely dates from the 1920s and 1930s London County Council programme; many terraces and semi-detached homes still show the original brick patterns, bay windows and small front gardens typical of that development. The ward structure and local open spaces give a clear civic shape to the neighbourhood.

Local facilities include primary schools, a community centre and a parade of shops serving day-to-day needs, with sports pitches and small play areas set into the estate’s green layout. The area is served by several bus routes that link it to the rest of the borough and to east London transport connections.
